Canada Adventure 2015 Day 8

From the start of this trip we had planned a rest day in so that we could spend a day wherever we wanted to so that we could relax and reset. Riding all day offroad takes its toll on body and mind and this was something we figured out last year.

After spending some time in Kaslo, BC and arriving at Toad Rock Motorcycle Campground the previous evening, we knew this would be the area we would spent that extra day in. Toad Rock is such a spectacular and unique place. We spent the first evening in the ‘social area’ playing some pool and hanging out with some of the people there. No alarm was set the next morning as we took our time to get up, threw on some casual clothes and our jackets, and rode up to Kaslo for brekky.

We sat on the patio of Blue Belle Bistro Cafe and enjoyed our morning coffee. The coffee, Oso Negro, brewed in Nelson, BC, was so good I bought a pound of it!

Followed by a walk around town seeing the various shops and hanging out on the beach.

By early afternoon we decided to take a 20 mile ride up the mountain to Buchanan Outlook. The area has been plagued by so many wildfires this year, 3 times as many as normal! We weren’t sure we’d get much of a view since all the valleys were filled with smoke as the Kootenay Lake valley had. I was blown away to review how the pictures came out though!

We soaked in the view and the experience then rode back down the dusty, hot mountain to Kaslo to relax a bit more before heading back to Toad Rock. When we got back to Toad Rock, we found it overrun but Volkswagen Buses and Vanagon pop tops, along with some other more unique and impressive gyspy-mobiles.

As night descended, we joined everyone at the social area for a movie, drinks, songs, and conversation. It was a day well spent!

The night was finally clear enough for us to see the milky way from our camp site as we layed out and wound down before retiring to the bus for the final night.
