New Zealand 2017 Day 2

The second day, we awoke and ventured down to Lake Rotoiti again. After breakfast, we packed up and started the long day to Christchurch. The weather forecast had rain from the mountain pass all the way to the city. We had our gear ready and hoped for the best.

Our first stop along the way was a nice scenic spot along Buller River.

It didn’t take us long to find nice weather for the morning as we wound our way through the valleys heading South. It was surprisingly agricultural with vineyards, pastures, and fields of others crops. This would be a great place to be a farmer.

We stopped for lunch at Arthur’s Pass on highway 73 heading towards Christchurch. We met this infamous fellow while we were there. Oh, and we also hit rain once we got up in altitude with temperatures hovering around 10C! Good thing we had heated grips on both bikes!

Then it was off to Christchurch and the hope of a break in the rain for the afternoon. We got a chance to dry out at what seemed to be the perfect time for us to experience such amazing scenery through the valleys heading East.

We made it into Christchurch that evening with rain finding us again. We enjoyed warming up inside and relaxing after this long day.

Day 3 continues…
